The approach to the ‘portrait’ image in Montelupo pottery, according to John Mallet, produced results similar in culture and chronology to
those in other pottery towns of the peninsula. The first Montelupo pottery with figurative decoration comes from the late medieval, a production that continued up to mid 15th c.(‘Figurato’ Maiolica plate from the Ariana collection in Geneva Switzerland - prob mid 17th c.)
