21. Iznik 18th - Prophet’s Muhammad Footprints

Iznik tile dated from 1706 (early 18th c.) with the footprints of the prophet Muhammad. These are the footprints left by the Prophet before his miraculous night journey from Jerusalem to the heavens. Above the rock on which he stepped was erected in 691 the earliest Islamic monument, the Dome of the Rock.
Iznik Collections are found in both important private collections & museums of Islamic arts. The Benaki Museum of Islamic Art is one of the most important in the world. It includes examples from as far as India, Persia, Mesopotamia, Asia Minor, Middle East and Egypt.
